Clams Casino, invented in the state of Rhode Island, is a popular seafood appetizer in the United States.\u00a0 Traditionally, Clams Casino comprise clams on the half shell, topped with onions, bacon and breadcrumbs, then baked in the oven.\u00a0 A manifold of recipes is prepared with diverse clams, herbs and seasonings.\u00a0 In our recipe, we use Manila Clams that have a tender texture and a distinct flavor.\u00a0 The European Smoked Bacon, cured and smoked using traditional techniques, has a salty and robust flavor.\u00a0 We select Japanese Style Panko Bread Crumbs that are made from a crustless white bread and processed into light and crispy flakes.\u00a0 They can be purchased at Asian grocery markets in the USA.\u00a0 Clams Casino is a timeless appetizer, simple to prepare and superbly delicious.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Manila Clams \u2013 24 medium size
European Smoked Bacon \u2013 80 grams
Green Bell Pepper \u2013 1\/4 medium size
Red Bell Pepper \u2013 1\/4 medium size
White Onion \u2013 1\/4 medium size
Japanese Style Panko Bread Crumbs \u2013 10 grams
Olive Oil \u2013 4 tablespoons
Water \u2013 2 cups (473ml)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Step 1<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Cut the bacon into thin slices and then into equal 1-inch by 1-inch pieces.\u00a0 Chop finely the peppers and the onion.\u00a0 In the skillet, saut\u00e9 the vegetables in olive oil on medium heat for a few minutes, then set aside.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Step 2<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Place clams in a bowl and rinse under cold running water to remove any remaining particles and sand. In a medium pot, add the water and bring to a boil.\u00a0 Add the clams, cover the pot and cook for a few minutes until the clams open.\u00a0 Place the clams onto a plate, remove the upper shells and loosen the clams from their shell.\u00a0 Place the clams on a half-shell in a round baking dish or on a baking sheet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Step 3<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Spread an equal amount of vegetable mixture on each clam, covering them completely.\u00a0 Sprinkle the breadcrumbs on top and then top each clam with a piece of bacon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Step 4<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Preheat the oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit (204 Celsius).\u00a0 Broil the clams for 10-15 minutes until the bacon pieces become slightly crispy.\u00a0 Remove the Clams Casino from the oven and serve immediately.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
