Costa Rica

Costa Rica, a beautiful country in Central America, boasts a mountainous terrain formed over millions of years, the result of a volcanic activity.  Costa Rica is located along the Pacific Ring of Fire, a tectonic belt of volcanoes and earthquakes along the Pacific Ocean.  Costa Rica is the land of mountain ranges, consisting of dormant and active volcanoes.  Vast mountain ranges separate the coastal plains set along the Pacific coast and the Caribbean coast.  Costa Rica’s Pacific coast is characterized by beautiful beaches, vibrant marine life, mountain ranges, tropical forests and mangrove swamps.  The expansive coastline and wilderness terrain serve as a vibrant ecosystem for diverse fauna and flora.

Fauna of Costa Rica

Costa Rica’s national parks and nature reserves are inhabited by a wide variety of plant species and wildlife.  Guanacaste, in the northwestern region of Costa Rica, includes volcanic terrain, lush rainforests, tropical forests and marine ecosystems.  The pristine wilderness of Guanacaste is a wildlife viewing paradise, especially in the spring time.  We enjoy hiking in the national parks, snorkeling in peaceful bays and taking a boat tour along the Guanacaste River.

We observe unique species of mammals, reptiles and birds in their natural habitat.  The Bare-Throated Tiger-Heron is an exceptionally attractive and colorful bird.  The Laughing Falcon is a majestic bird with distinctive dark marks covering the sides of its face.  The Mantled Howler Monkey, a primate species in Central America, is known for its social behavior and distinctive vocalizations.  Guanacaste is inhabited by different species of reptiles, such as crocodiles, snakes and iguanas. We observe a group of crocodiles, directing our attention to baby crocodiles along the bank of the river.

Hiking in the forest, we encounter Coati, a mammal widespread in Costa Rica, featuring an elongated nose and a long tail.  During a particularly beautiful evening after sunset, we observe a group of coatis curiously exploring the swimming pool of our resort.  These lovely encounters are moments to remember.  Costa Rica is a place of natural beauty, visible across its mountain slopes, stunning coastlines, pristine wilderness and exotic fauna and flora.
